Ecotricity

The biggest step you can make is probably also the easiest... with wind power

“Not everybody realises the burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the single biggest cause of climate change in our country today,but even less people realise that the biggest thing you can do is also the easiest. And that is simply to change where your electricity comes from!”

Interface Floor Carpet:

Interface ranges can be purchased under the ‘Cool Carpet’ scheme which makes the products ‘climate neutral’.  This means that any greenhouse gases emitted during the lifecycle (from raw material acquisition to production, use, and final disposal) of production are balanced by Interface.

Essentially, Interface calculates the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO   ) that is created during a product’s lifecycle.  This figure is then offset through investment in projects which reduce or reverse the impact of those emissions.  These tend to fall into three kinds:

  • Projects which produce renewable energy without adding CO  to the atmosphere;
  • Projects which increase energy efficiency by cutting down on the amount of fossil fuels used and consequently the CO  produced;
  • Projects which actually remove CO   from the atmosphere.

Interface are also involved in projects such as restoring rainforests, building wind turbines, and improving home insulation to save fossil fuels.  They also collect and recycle your carpet at the end of its use.  All Interface carpets are manufactured using renewable energy sources, and the company strives to create minimal emissions and waste.

Forbo Marmoleum:

Forbo Marmoleum is known for being environmentally friendly as it is predominantly made from natural raw materials.  The prime ingredient is linseed oil, combined with wood flour ecologically responsible pigments that add colour.  The fine structure backing is made from limestone jute.  The topsheild is an innovative water-based finish, therefore less chemicals are used.  All of natural materials use surprisingly little energy to harvest, extract and process.  The plants that supply the raw materials also produce oxygen that helps to reduce CO2 levels in the atmosphere.

Mamoleum is fully biodegradable and recyclable at the end of its long useful life.

Forbo are committed to energy efficiency, recycling materials where possible, and emissions are kept to an absolute minimum.
